Care Sector Updates this May: Funding, CQC and Training News
The Health and Social Care Sector continues to evolve, with important updates affecting Training, Funding, Compliance and Inspection readiness.
This May, several key updates should be on your radar, including confirmed funding for Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, changes to LDSS claim requirements and proposed updates to the CQC Assessment Framework. We also have a wide range of exciting opportunities to network, learn and gain practical guidance from sector Experts.
Oliver McGowan Funding confirmed
Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training remains a major priority across Health and Social Care. The Training has been designed to help Staff better understand and support Autistic people and people with a Learning Disability.
Funding for Oliver’s Training has been confirmed for the 2026–27 financial year through a separate ring-fenced Learning and Development Support Scheme, also known as LDSS, funding pot.
However, Providers should be aware that this funding is limited. If the relevant ring-fenced fund is exhausted, further claims made against that fund will not be reimbursed.
This means Organisations should act promptly and submit claims as soon as the required evidence is in place.
You can find out more about the Learning and Development Support Scheme here.
CQC and LDSS Updates:
Alongside confirmed funding for Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, Providers should be aware of wider LDSS updates, the three-month claims window, and proposed changes to CQC Assessment Frameworks.
Claims for eligible Training courses, including Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, must be submitted after the Course has been completed and within three months of completion.
Providers also have until 30 May 2026 to submit feedback on CQC’s draft Sector-Specific Assessment Frameworks. Find out more.
To help you understand what these changes could mean in practice, CBAT, Care Research and Confident Competence are coming together to host a free online session.
